Police in riot gear

Not a great shot, as I'm limited to the poor camera on my iPhone, but this shows two lines of riot police out in front of the Parliment building in central Athens. A large number of extremely peaceful protesters are in the square across the street. People were holding hands, singing and dancing. Seemed more like a Grateful Dead show than a protest. Not sure why the police needed such high numbers. There is a strong police presence in Athens. Partners zip around on motos instead of using cars. Maybe visible police deter crime, I feel very safe wandering the streets alone.
