Very Special Lunch

The other day we were invited to the home of a local family for lunch. There was an enormous quantity of food, but the star of the show was roasted goat stuffed with wild rice. The rice was flavored with organ meat ( liver, kidneys, heart) and various spices. It seemed to be roasted for many hours as it was fork tender. It took a lot of effort on the part of our host, and was much appreciated. Delicious!

As we were a large group they also roasted and stuffed a lamb to go with the goat. I learned that mustard is the best condiment for goat. The feast also included baked pasta, scalloped potatoes, beet and yogurt salad, green salad, lots of bread, tzatziki and Greek salad. Two desserts were presented, one with custard and whipped cream and another with semolina soaked in a sweet syrup and then formed into a loaf.

If your plate got empty it needed to be filled back up again!

It was a good thing that we needed to walk from the port up to the top of the hill and beyond after dinner to get back home, as we got a chance to burn some calories.

A good time was had by all.

  1. How nice of the family to invite you to lunch it sounds like it took a lot of work. I'm sure the family were happy knowing how much you enjoyed the meal
