Acropolis Museum

We arrived at the Athens airport early in the day and decided to take the metro into the city to visit the Acropolis Museum. The metro is clean, efficient and super easy to access from the airport. Some of the stations even preserve excavated areas or artifacts uncovered while building out the metro. You can't stick a shovel into the ground in the city without unearthing a piece of history.

Here is a shot of Andrea taking a photo of the Acropolis from inside the museum. As usual, you can see what seems like the perpetual layer of scaffolding covering the Parthenon. It is a view that I never tire of, especially at night when the Acropolis is flooded with light.

The Acropolis Museum only houses finds found on the Acropolis or it's slopes. It is an amazing museum dedicated to an incredibly small but artifact rich piece of land. The vast number of objects held there is amazing. The museum itself is a very modern structure and has won several awards for it's architecture alone. Visit it if you find yourself in Athens.

The little outdoor cafe has one of the best views of the Acropolis that you will find. They serve drinks and small plates. I had a Greek Coffee and a mastic infused custard on phyllo that was to die for.
