Surprise Fish Dinner

Today we were treated to a surprise dinner by one of our local friends. We were told to expect fish and vegetables, but we got a whole lot more. Of course our dinner arrived piping hot on the back of a motorbike, delivered by one of our dear friends.

We were going to save it to eat later, but it seemed so good that we ate it on the spot.

Our meal included three of the fish that you see in the picture. We were also served a vegetable called horta or vlita which seemed like mustard greens to us, sauteed, very tasty. To our great delight we got a whole bag of wood fired paximadia, imagine giant seasoned croutons.  Also included in our feast was a bowl of black eyed peas seasoned with onions. Our generous hostess also provided us with bottle of freshly squeezed lemon juice as seasoning.

We are always pleasantly surprised by the generosity and hospitality of our Greek hosts.  We thank them profusely, it just never seems to be enough.  It reminds me that a simple act of kindness can go a long way.  So go out today and be good to somebody.

In case you have never read any of my previous fish posts, the best way to eat fish is with your hands.  No knife and fork required. You just break little pieces of flaky white meat right off of the bone and pop it into your mouth.  Mmmmm!

We were also offered the following nugget of Greek wisdom.  The woman and the fish both like the hands.

More soon.
