Kaminakia Beach

For many years people have told us that they love the beach at Kaminakia.  I have always wanted to go, but it is a little bit out of the way, accessible by car down a long steep dirt road.  However, this year I rented an SUV and was determined to make it to Kaminakia.

The first shot is of a relatively new street sign that points the way to Kaminakia. There are no street names on this island, just an arrow pointing toward a destination. As you can see from the sign, I had to choose between going to Kaminakia or Vatses, and although Vatses is my favorite beach in Astypalaia, I piloted the car toward Kaminakia. We passed several goats on the journey.

There were a few people at the beach, some of them were spearfishing and gutting there catches right there on the beach. A little fishing boat was bobbing around on the water.  It really was the picture of tranquility.

As it was our day off we rented a couple of beach chairs and settled in for a rest. Took a couple of dips into the ocean, but the currents were really strong.

Although Kaminakia was a fabulous beach, Vatses is still my favorite.
