Plakes Beach

Astypalaia has some really beautiful beaches, there are a lot of little coves with deep blue water tucked away here and there. Many beaches are difficult to access, some are best traveled to by boat. A good number of beaches, including Plakes, are accessed by steep gravelly goat paths. The photo below shows the meandering path that goes from the parking area through lots of spiky shrubs and thyme plants. Of course I wore the wrong shoes for this adventure, but had to make my way down to the water anyway.

The other thing I will point out about Astypalaian beaches, is that difficult access often means it is a nude beach. Plakes is both a nude and clothed beach.  In at least one of these photos you will see some nude beachgoers, see if you can spot them. Andrea and I always keep our clothes on, as do the majority of Greeks.

The weird layers of eroding layers of sedimentary rocks give Plakes it's beauty.  The water is crystal clear, and many different colors of blue.

Thought you'd enjoy the stunning beauty of Plakes.

More soon.
