Tiropita Strifti

Today another baked treat arrived to my front door straight from the oven. It was so hot that it burned Andrea's fingers.

Look at the beautiful browning on these rolls.  The lady who baked these must have put a nice egg wash on them while they were in the oven.

Andrea did a bit of research and found that this savory baked good is called tiro pita strifidi. Tiro means cheese, pita means pie and strifti means twisted.

Compound words are common in Greek, and they are often an apt description of the object at hand. Twisted greek pie it is.

Feta cheese makes up the filling on this savory pie.

We had them tonight with chicken, dry rubbed with Greek spices and a sauteed veggie medley of zucchini, onions and red bell peppers. The meal was fantastic.

Tomorrow she plans to come with more pouggia. Oh, no. I will not be able to resist the pouggia.

More soon.
