Island Car

This is my favorite island car on Astypalaia. I know that some of you out there have fond memories of island cars. They are usually cars that are on their last legs, possibly with duct tape or creative welding holding them together. Each time you start one up you are praying that it will get you to your chosen destination.



Island cars show the practical side of island dwellers. Since everything, including vehicles, is shipped to an island, people tend to repair and reuse items until they die. When you get up close to this vehicle you can see the way the pieces are creatively welded together. The seat is held together with duct tape. The little flatbed for carrying loads has been made by hand and painted to match the rest of the rig. He has lots of little tools in the back for quick repairs.



Let me tell you, he can drive this car/truck/bike anywhere. I saw him do a masterful parallel parking job on a steep incline the other night. He gets about two inches away from the curb.
