Greek Wedding

This is a shot of a Greek wedding that we found in progress within the castle walls at the highest point in Chora. In my first post you saw the castle with the blue domed church at the top of the photo. The church in this picture is actually a smaller one at the same site.
It was getting dark and there was a fierce wind, but that did not dampen the festivities. In the foreground you can see a couple of musicians entertaining the guests.
We were tipped off about this wedding by a couple that visited our open house at the lab. They described a local pre wedding procession to us. It seems that the first order of business is to bring the groom to the church. He is fetched by a band of people who are making lots of noise by honking their car/moto horns or playing musical instruments. He is paraded through the streets and finally ends up at the church. The same process is then carried out for the bride. When everyone is at the church the wedding can begin. We did not hear the procession, but understand that the couple were not locals, so the tradition may or may not have been observed.
You can just make out the bride under the first arch on the left side of the picture.
More soon,
CB
