Scary

Our flight from Astypalaia to Athens was just about as scary as that fast two inch spider in the first shot. We encountered him in the lab one morning.

Simon took us over to the airport, for which we were very thankful, and we checked in for our flight. The weight limit for luggage without an extra fee was 15 kilos. I had 14.6 and Andrea had 14.8, our carry ons had all 6 osteology textbooks.

Our plane baked in the sun with no AC for about half an hour before we boarded. We had the last two seats in the tail of the prop plane, which held about 40 people. Sweat started pouring out of me, and I was afraid that I was going to end up sitting in a puddle of of water. The plane finally got up enough speed to take off from the really short runway, this lack of speed caused Andrea to express her anxiety about us ever getting off of the ground.

Once airborne the wind buffeted us around, and it was quite turbulent. At one point Andrea started searching about for the air sick bag just in case. It was a bit of a white knuckle ride for the 45 minute flight from Astypalaia to Athens. The situation was not helped by the lady sitting next to me who seemed to have taken some drug and was slipping in and out of consciousness.

Finally we arrived safe and sound in Athens where it was very hot. We went into the restaurant in the Sofitel and ordered some champagne to celebrate our safe arrival. Decided against going into Athens for dinner, just too hot.

Tomorrow we head back to LA
